NGC 6946 observing by DOLoRes

True color combined image for the nearby galaxy NGC 6946 made with frames taken with Dolores (B, V and R). This Sc spiral galaxy which is only 5.5 Mpc distant (about 18 millions years light) has been a prolific producer of supernovae during the last century (SNe 1917A, 1939C, 1948B, 1968D, 1969P and 1980 K). Four of these SNe have been of Type II, which is indicative of an high rate of massive star formation.
