FGG landline telephone refurbishment

The Fundación Galileo Galilei's telephone network is being upgraded, which means that landline services are changing.

What is changing?

The landline has been delivered through a digital network (RDSI) for decades and now it is being replaced with a newer digital technology.
The new system uses the 'Voice over Internet Protocol' (VOIP).

Once the telephone system has been migrated to VOIP, the FGG will be only reachable via the central desk number +34 922 433 666.
FGG users can be reached through their extensions through an IVR (Interactive Voice Response). Otherwise an operator will attend the call.

The telephone extension list is available at the staff page. (link to staff page)

When are these changes happening?

It is supposed that the new system will be up and running by the 15th of December 2023.

Why are we changing the system?

First of all because we have been forced by the telephone company. In fact Telefónica announced in 2023 that they will switch off their infrastructure based on copper (Proyecto Faro).
At the same time, we also needed to refurbish the old telephone system and adopt a more flexible and technologically advanced one. This will allow to have more efficient communications and to save money.
