Oig

OIG is a CCD camera for direct imaging at optical wavelengths (between 0.32 nd 1.1 microns) for the TNG. It is mounted on the Nasmyth A Adapter interface. OIG is designed to host a variety of CCD chips or mosaics for a field of view up to 10 arcmin. At the moment it is equipped with a mosaic of two thinned and back-illuminated EEV 42-80 CCDs with 2048 x 4096 pixels each (pixel size of 13.5 microns). The resulting pixel scale is 0.072 arcsec/pix for a total field of view of about 4.9 x 4.9 arcmin.

Speckle Camera

The adaptive optics system of TNG (AdOpt@TNG) is equipped with a real-time speckle camera having diffraction limited imaging capabilities at visible wavelengths.

Adopt

The Adaptive Optics for the TNG provides high resolution images for the near IR camera thanks to tip-tilt (TT) and to high-orders (HO) correction. The AdOpt@TNG system is permanently mounted at the Nasmyth A focus. It removes most of the aberrations due to atmospheric turbulence with a tiltable off-axis parabola and a 97 piezo-stack actuators deformable mirror, beeing the unique TNG instrument which allows to obtain diffraction-limited images (exploiting the full resolution power of the 3.6m TNG aperture, 0.15arcsec in K). The wavefront sensing is performed with a pyramid sensor for TT and HO correction, the first wavefront sensor of this type mounted on a telescope in the World. See IMAGE GALLERY to directly see the capabilities of this technique.

Sarg

SARG is a high efficiency spectrograph designed for the spectral range from 370 up to 900 nm, and for resolution from R=29,000 up to R=164,000. SARG uses an R4 echelle grating in Quasi-Littrow mode; the beam size is 100 mm giving an RS product of RS=46,000 at order centre. Both single object and long slit (up to 30 arcsec) observing modes are possible. A dioptric camera images the cross dispersed spectra onto a mosaic of two 2048X4096 CCDs.

GIANO

Giano is the near IR high resolution echelle spectrograph at TNG. Its observing mode at R~ 50000 covers a spectral range between 0.95 microns to 2.45 microns. This instrument is fiber-fed with 2 fibers of 1 arcsec angular diameter.
