AOT31 Call for proposals. Deadline 17.11.2014

CALL FOR PROPOSAL TNG & REM
also featuring HAN-GTO, GIANO-GTO and NOTTIME

AOT 31 (2015A) is now open for proposals
Applications for observing time for the period

March 1st, 2015 - August 31st, 2015

are solicited and should be submitted by
Monday 17th November, 2014, 12:00 UT

THE NEW INSTRUMENT GIANO WILL BE OFFERED TO GENERAL OBSERVERS STARTING THIS SEMESTER.
GIANO is a near infrared, high resolution, echelle spectrograph (R~50000) covering from 0.95 to 2.45 microns. Look at the GIANO webpage for more info and observing cookbook: http://www.tng.iac.es/instruments/giano/
NOTICE: TNG
Due to the situation of this semester, TNG time is mostly awarded to guaranteed observers and long term, ongoing programs.
40 nights will be reserved for the continuation of the GAPS program (see the letter by the INAF Science Directorate at http://www.tng.iac.es/Lettera-GAPS.pdf)
Therefore we are offering a limited amount of nights, starting with 17 available nights, to which few more can be added depending on unassigned nights from external TACS.
See below for the further 20 nights available at NOT telescope.

Recommended mode is service, where TNG staff astronomers will perform the observations in the scheduled nights. The queuing mode is not offered. We will be accepting (few) DDT-like proposals during the whole semester, which will be judged in few days by TNG staff and INAF-TAC. Service mode will be the only modality for these observations.

NOTICE: REM
REM is again operational and equipped with ROS2 visible camera. ROS2 will produce simultaneous images in the four Sloan-like passbands g, r, i, z.

TNG is a 3.58m optical/infrared telescope located at Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory in the island of La Palma (Canary Island). Its primary mirror is corrected by Active Optics and it is equipped with instruments for imaging and spectroscopy, spanning the optical and near infrared wavelengths range.

REM is a 60 cm robotic telescope located at La Silla ESO site (Chile) which can observe simultaneously with a visible and an infrared camera. The observations will be carried out in unmanned, queuing mode. INAF-TAC will allocate 1000 hours of observations.

FORMS

Application forms and detailed instructions can be downloaded from
the TNG web pages ( http://www.tng.iac.es/submit.html).

TNG and REM LONG TERM PROGRAMS: PIs of ongoing long term programs shall not send a new proposal.
Instead, they should send to the TAC (via an e-mail to director@tng.iac.es) a conveniently detailed progress report.

All proposals will be judged strictly on their scientific merit.
