NameExoWorlds: give a name to one exoplanet

NameExoWorlds offers the opportunity for all countries in the world to give a name to one exoplanet and its hosting star. More than 70 countries have joined the IAU100 NameExoWorlds competition, an initiative to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).

Would you like to give a name to an exoplanet?

Thanks to the ExoWorlds competition it is now possible: you can participate as an individual person, a group or a school following some simple rules. http://www.nameexoworlds.iau.org/

Names will be chosen by public voting carried out in each country.
The chosen names will be recognized by IAU as official names.

To participate to the competition you have to send your proposal name for the exo-planet assigned to your country: http://www.nameexoworlds.iau.org/list-of-stars, by October 10.

The Telescopio Nazionale Galileo will collaborate for the competition associated to the exo-planet system assigned to Italy: HD 102195.

HD102195 is a star located at a distance of about 95 light years from us with a surface temperature slightly lower than that of our Sun. The planet orbiting the star with a period of 4.1 days is named HD 102195b. It is a non-transiting planet discovered in January 2006 with an estimated mass of about half that of Jupiter.

Among the different prizes, the winner of the competition associated to HD 102195 system will have the possibility to travel to La Palma and visit the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, the largest optical-infrared italian telescope.
