Massive stars in X-ray Binaries: X-raying the winds

Speaker: Jose Miguel Torrejon (Universidad de Alicante)

Massive stars are true cosmic engines. Although their general properties and wind structure were established decades ago, a considerable uncertainty still exists about some of their properties and the theoretical models still show serious discrepancies. In this work, we study massive stars in binary systems with a compact object in orbit. The accretion onto this compact object feeds a powerful X-ray source which will be used to X-ray the stellar wind properties, complemented with a comprehensive meassuremt of stellar properties using a multi-wavelength approach.
