Change in the FGG management

Starting from December 1^st, with the end of Dr. Ennio Poretti’s 5-years term, the FGG Patronato appointed Adriano Ghedina, former Technical Coordinator of the TNG, as Director of the Fundación Galileo Galilei.

Adriano Ghedina was born in Cortina d’Ampezzo near Belluno in 1970, and obtained his degree in Astronomy at the University of Padua. He has been a staff member of Telescopio Nazionale Galileo for 25 years – starting as responsible of the Optics and later the Adaptive Optics and, with the creation of the Fundación Galileo Galilei in 2005, as Technical Coordinator.

Dr. Ennio Poretti has been the Scientific Director of FGG since January 1^st, 2018 (https://www.tng.iac.es/news/2017/12/02/direction/). He organized two conferences in La Palma – I 25 anni del TNG in 2021 and The RR Lyrae and Cepheid Conference 2022. During his mandate the FGG faced hard periods, like the Covid-19 Pandemic and the volcanic eruption at the end of 2021. “Despite these difficulties, it has been an exciting adventure, definitely worthy of being undertaken”, he said.

We are grateful to Ennio Poretti for the work he has done for the FGG and we would like to wish good luck to Adriano Ghedina in this new journey!
