Ennio Poretti appointed as new Director of TNG and FGG
The President of the Patronato of the Fundación Galileo Galilei INAF signed the appointment of Dr. Ennio Poretti. Dr. Poretti will be in charge as new Scientific Director of FGG starting today 1st December 2017, and as Administrative Responsible (Gerente) starting 1st January 2018, when Dr. Emilio Molinari will leave the Fundación after more than 9 years.
A brief self description of Ennio Poretti follows.
Born in Arconate, near Milano, in 1956. Amateur astronomer since 1974, obtained his Laurea in Physics at Universita' Statale di Milano in 1982. Married with Luisa in 1983, with a daughter, Martina (1986), and a son, Giacomo (1989). Grandfather of Alessandro (2017). In the staff of INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera since 1981, he has always worked in the field of stellar variability, with a particular interest in pulsating stars located in the classical instability strip, from Delta Scuti to Cepheids. Coordinator of the ground-based observations of the asteroseismic targets of the space mission CoRoT, he was the PI of the three consecutive ESO Large Programs. Aware of the strong potential of asteroseismology in the study of the exoplanetary systems, he supported the installation of HARPS-N at TNG and started to use it regularly since 2014.
