Open Position as telescope operator

The Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), a research structure of the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), is starting the informal, non binding procedure for the recruitment of a telescope operator, with duty location in Breña Baja and the Observatory of Roque de Los Muchachos, Island of La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain.

With this notice, people with adequate knowledge and qualification are invited to send their expression of interest for the position. The appointment, after a trial period, can be considered for a fixed contract with the Fundación Galileo Galilei Fundación Canaria (FGG). Also INAF personnel can be assigned for this position.

The duties of telescope operator concern the night operation at the TNG telescope, telescope control system and instrumentation control system. Time for personal research or telescope related interests will be allowed, in accordance with the Head of Operators.

Among necessary characteristics are the knowledge of the use of computer aided control system (previous telescope experiences will be considered a plus) and knowledge of English language and at least another language between Italian and Spanish.
