The visit of the INAF Administration Board to the FGG-INAF

The FGG-INAF hosted the visit of the Board of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) from July 19 to 21 2022. This visit had already been planned on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the TNG in October 2021, but could only take place partially due to the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano. The INAF delegation was composed of Marco Tavani (INAF President), Stefano Giovannini (CdA INAF Vice-President), Filippo Zerbi (INAF Scientific Director), Gaetano Telesio (INAF General Director), Luigi Spampinato (President of the INAF Council of Auditors), Stefano Borgani (CdA member), Grazia Umana (CdA member), Massimo Cappi (Chair of the INAF High-Energies Division), and Angelo Antonelli (Member of the CTA-LST Collaboration and Director of the Rome INAF Observatory).

The INAF delegation visited the ASTRI site at the Teide Observatory in Tenerife on Tuesday July 19. The ASTRI-1 telescope was in the final part of the Assembly and Integration tests and the delegation could assist to its first rapid movements.

They moved to La Palma on Wednesday July 20. They had a meeting with the FGG-INAF personnel in the morning. The INAF plans were discussed and the INAF Board answered the several questions posed. The delegation visited the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo in the afternoon. The staff personnel explained how the telescope is running and described all the maintenance and developments works necessary to keep it at the frontier of astrophysical research after 25 years of operations. Next, the delegation visited the LST and the MAGIC telescopes, two experiments in which INAF is involved in the management and in the scientific exploitation.

Before leaving the island on Thursday afternoon, the members of the FGG-INAF Patronato had another meeting with the Heads of Divisions, thus completing the analysis of the numerous activities carried out by FGG-INAF in the Canary Islands.
