Young Astronomers at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo: III Edition
The Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM), in collaboration with Società Astronomica Italiana (SAIt), Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), and Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), announced the Third Edition of the National Competition “Giovani Astronomi al Telescopio Nazionale Galileo.”
The competition aims to promote and enhance students' scientific and technological skills by offering opportunities for growth, teamwork, and exploration of the wonders of the Universe.
Who can participate? Students in the third and fourth years of secondary schools, including Italian schools abroad, regardless of nationality, are eligible. Participation, including the internship at the TNG, can be recognized as PCTO (Percorsi per le Competenze Trasversali e per l'Orientamento), through special agreements with SAIt and TNG.
The competition consists of two main phases:
First phase: Each school must submit a description of the observational proposal they intend to carry out at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo by 11:59 PM on November 22, 2025. Among the proposals received, ten will be selected. The selection results will be published on December 20, 2025.
Second phase: A tutor will be assigned to the 10 selected schools to help to finalize the observational proposal. The final proposal must be submitted by 11:59 PM on March 8, 2026. The winner team will be announced on April 4, 2026.
