Dr. Ghedina awarded with the Star of Italy for his contribution to international relations and the promotion of Italian culture abroad.

On Monday, October 20th, at the Italian Embassy in Madrid, H.E. the Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi awarded with the insignia of the Ordine della Stella d'Italia, with the rank of officer, to astrophysicist Adriano Ghedina. The ceremony, which was attended by Cultural Advisor Teodora Danisi, Scientific Advisor Prof. Sergio Scopetta, and Tenerife Consul Gianluca Cappelli Bigazzi, recognized Ghedina's crucial role in strengthening scientific and technical relations between Italy and Spain.

In his speech, the Ambassador emphasized Ghedina's continuous commitment to scientific research and his ability to lead with rigor and enthusiasm the team working at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), maintaining the observatory at internationally recognized levels of excellence. Additionally, the Ambassador highlighted how Ghedina's leadership of the TNG, Italy's largest astronomical telescope, brings significant prestige to Italy within the global scientific community.

The Ordine della Stella d'Italia is one of Italy's highest honors, conferred by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, to Italian citizens living abroad or foreign people who contribute to promoting Italian culture and fostering international cooperation. Alongside Ghedina, two other officers and three knights were also honored for their outstanding contributions to the promotion of Italian culture in Spain.

Adriano Ghedina, who has been working with the TNG since 1997, has served as the Scientific Director of the telescope and Manager of the Fundación Galileo Galilei since 2022, consolidating his leadership role in the field of astronomy and space research.
